Alphabetical list of online repositories

AMSER (the Applied Math and Science Education Repository) is a portal of educational resources and services built specifically for use by those in Community and Technical Colleges but free for anyone to use. AMSER is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of the National Science Digital Library.

ARIADNE (European Knowledge Pool System) Developed to deliver educational content throughout Europe, the KPS facilitates the sharing and reuse of educational resources. This encouragement of the discovery and reuse of these materials encourages an increasing recognition that learning object production is a valid field of activity for academics. The collection contains materials of a wide variety of interactivity levels in many European languages, primarily English, French, Italian, German, and Dutch.

Blue Web'n is an online library of Internet sites categorized by subject, grade level, and format (tools, references, lessons, hotlists, resources, tutorials, activities, projects).Sponsored by AT&T Knowledge Venture, included sites are selected by thier panel of Education Advocates.

CAREO (Campus Alberta Repository of Educational Objects) is a repository of over 3,500 educational materials on various subjects and interactivity levels as part of a larger project to create “a searchable, Web-based collection of multidisciplinary teaching materials for educators” for Alberta and elsewhere.

CITIDEL (Computing and Information Technology Interactive Digital Educational Library) Created by a consortium led by Hofstra University , The College of New Jersey , The Pennsylvania State University, Villanova University , and Virginia Tech, CITIDEL functions as part of the Collections Track activities in the National SMETE (Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology Education) Digital Library ( NSDL ). It serves the computing education community in all its diversity and at all levels including computer science, information systems, information science, software engineering, computer engineering, and all other variations of title and substance in these and related fields.

Connexions is project at Rice University to provide an environment for collaboratively developing, freely sharing, and rapidly publishing scholarly content on the Web. Educational materials vary in level from children to college students to professionals. Information is organized in small modules that can be cobined into larger courses. All content is free to use and reuse under the Creative Commons "attribution" license.

CLOE (Co-operative Learning Object Exchange) is a collaboration between Ontario universities and colleges for the development, sharing, and reuse of multimedia-rich learning resources. This occurs through the CLOE Learning Object repository. CLOE is a Canadian based organization with membership primarily in Ontario (all universities and many colleges) as well as agreements with organizations in Manitoba, Newfoundland, and Thailand.

DLESE (The Digital Library for Earth System Education) is a distributed community effort involving educators, students, and scientists working together to improve the quality, quantity, and efficiency of teaching and learning about the Earth system at all levels.

EducaNext is a service supporting the creation and sharing of knowledge for Higher Education. It is open to any member of the academic or research community.

edna (Education Network Australia) is a joint initiative of the Australiaian state and territory governments and the Australian Government, through their education departments, to provide free news, resources, networks and online tools for educators. edna is a network of and for the Australian education and training community. This includes government and non-government schooling systems, early childhood, vocational and technical education, adult and community education and higher education.

Exploratories goal is to begin the groundwork for a next-generation approach to Web-based educational software. The long term goal is to develop a next-generation of learning technologies, manifested as full courses and digital libraries of richly interactive educational software components ("learning objects") and curriculum units.

Fathom This archive, provided by Columbia University, offers access to the complete range of free content developed for Fathom by its member institutions.

FREE (Federal Resources for Educational Excellence) offers teaching and learning resources from the federal government. More than 1,500 federally supported teaching and learning resources are included from dozens of federal agencies. New sites are added regularly.

GEM (Gateway to Educational Materials) Established in 1997 and funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education, GEM gives users access to a collection of over 35,000 materials for the aid of educators. Materials within the GEM collection are found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites and range over all educational levels and subjects. The contents of the GEM collection are made up of “quality lesson plans, curriculum units and other educational resources on the Internet.”

Harvey Project An international collaboration of educators, researchers, physicians, students, programmers, instructional designers and graphic artists working together to build interactive, dynamic human physiology course materials on the Web.

Ide@s Collection of PK-16 resources selcetecd by educators from Wisconsin. Items are selected, evaluated, cataloged, and aligned to the state education standards resources that are already on the internet such as lesson plans and reference materials.

Intute: Arts and Humanities Free online service providing you with access to the best Web resources for education and research, selected and evaluated by a network of subject specialists.

iLumina is a digital library of sharable undergraduate teaching materials for chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and computer science. It is designed to quickly and accurately connect users with the educational resources they need. These resources range in type from highly granular objects such as individual images and video clips to entire courses. Resources in iLumina are cataloged in the MARC and NSDL metadata formats, which capture both technical and education-specific information about each resource.

Intute: Science, Engineering and Technology is a free online service providing you with access to the very best Web resources for education and research, evaluated and selected by a network of subject specialists. It covers the physical sciences, engineering, computing, geography, mathematics and environmental science. was created by bringing together three of the Hubs of the Resource Discovery Network (RDN): EEVL (Engineering, Mathematics and Computing), GEsource (Geography and Environment), and PSIgate (Physical Sciences).

Jorum is a free online repository service for teaching and support staff in UK Further and Higher Education Institutions, helping to build a community for the sharing, reuse and repurposing of learning and teaching materials.

Landmarks for Schools provides links to information building blocks: Web sites, pages, and interactive tools that provide information in the form of a raw material. The information and data can be imported into other information processing tools and used in the meaningful construction of unique and valuable information products, within the context of social studies, science, mathematics, and other disciplines.

The Learning Exchange learning resources for social work education. The content includes interactive games, video clips, case studies, official publications and radio broadcasts, all of which may be used for non-commercial, educational purposes. Much of it may be modified to suit individual needs

The Learning Tools initiated by the Department of Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (Arts ISIT) at the University of British Columbia. Arts ISIT strives to create new and improved technology-based learning opportunities for students and educators alike, by experimenting with new media and creating innovative online-based applications to facilitate teaching and learning.

Library of Congress The Library of Congress is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution and serves as the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with more than 130 million items on approximately 530 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 29 million books and other printed materials, 2.7 million recordings, 12 million photographs, 4.8 million maps, and 58 million manuscripts. The Library's mission is to make its resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people and to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations.

LOLA Exchange (Learning Objects, Learning Activities) LoLa is an exchange for facilitating the sharing of high-quality learning objects. It contains materials for use across the curriculum, with a particular focus on modules for Information Literacy.

The Math Forum @ Drexel online resource for improving math learning, teaching, and communication and to use the power of the Web to learn math and improve math education.
Collection includes problems and puzzles; online mentoring; research; team problem solving; collaborations; and professional development.

MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) is a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students of higher education. Links to online learning materials are collected here along with annotations such as peer reviews and assignments.

MLX (The Maricopa Learning eXchange) is an electronic warehouse of ideas, examples, and resources (represented as "packages") that support student learning at the Maricopa Community Colleges.

NSDL (The National Science Digital Library) was created by the National Science Foundation to provide organized access to high quality resources and tools that support innovations in teaching and learning at all levels of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

The Orange Grove is Florida´s operational repository project. It provides a single point of access for learning resources designed to be used by Florida´s K20 teachers and educational institutions. Content can be searched by a Sunshine State Standard,  Statewide (K12), Course Number (higher education), subject area, resource title, and by many other descriptive fields.

PBL Clearinghouse (Problem Based Learing) a collection of problems and articles to assist educators in using problem-based learning. The problems and articles are peer reviewed by PBL experts in the disciplinary content areas. Teaching notes and supplemental materials accompany each problem.

PBS Teachers Multimedia resources & professional development for America's preK-12 educators

PRISM Project (Portal Resources for Indiana Science and Mathematics) is a free website that provides collections of online resources for Indiana educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The primary collection of digital teaching materials is indexed according to the Indiana Academic Standards for grades 6, 7, and 8.

SchoolNet is a Canadian resouce created through partnership with the provincial and territorial governments, the education community and the private sector, which promotes the effective use of information and communications technologies (ICT) in learning. The government has invested heavily in providing Canada's schools and libraries with the information technology to connect young Canadians with the best information and knowledge the world has to offer.

SciQ is a collaborative partnership project that fosters science learning for K-12 students in Alberta and Canada. Since its inception in 2001, SciQ has focused on combining engaging science-related content with innovative technology to provide learning resources for students, teachers and parents.

SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) interactive programs that offer all visitors an enriching way to learn about art.

SMETE Digital Library is a dynamic online library and portal of services by the SMETE Open Federation for teachers and students. Access to teaching and learning materials as well a community of science, math, engineering and technology explorers of all ages.

TLF (The Le@rning Federation) employs emerging technologies to produce world-class online curriculum content to encourage student learning and support teachers in Australian and New Zealand schools. TLF is an initiative of the state, territory and federal governments of Australia and New Zealand.

VCILT This Learning Objects Repository (LOR) project is to build a web site where learning resources (Learning objects) from the University of Mauritius and from the Internet are gathered for later use.

Wisc-Online The Wisconsin Online Resource Center is a digital library of Web-based learning resources developed primarily by faculty from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and produced by multimedia technicians who create the learning objects for the online environment. Objects that are accessible to all WTCS faculty at no cost and with copyright clearance for use in any WTCS classroom or online application. Other colleges, universities, and consortia from throughout the United States and around the world use the library with permission.
